Ingrowing toenails

What is an ingrowing toenail?

An ingrowing toenail is a common and painful problem that occurs when the sides of the toenail grow into the surrounding skin. As the condition progresses the toenail may pierce the skin which creates a wound where bacteria can cause an infection. The big toenail is most commonly affected but any nail may ingrow. It is possible for one or both sides of the toenail to ingrow.

Symptoms:

  • Pain if pressure is applied to the toenail
  • Redness, heat and swelling of the soft tissue surrounding the toenail
  • An overgrowth of skin over the toenail
  • Bleeding or pus coming from the wound.

An ingrowing toenail will not resolve without professional treatment. At Elite Feet we offer a range of highly effective minor surgical procedures performed under local anaesthetic to provide you with a calm and totally comfortable experience. We aim to offer patients an appointment within a few days to see a specialist podiatrist for an initial assessment. Following the consultation if surgery is required, we can operate within days to resolve your painful problem quickly.

You will avoid the need for repeated courses of antibiotics that by themselves don’t resolve the problem and avoid extended waiting times – thereby allowing you to get back to doing the things you enjoy.
